Cancer Screening in Gynecology

Cancer screening in gynecology involves the early detection of various types of cancers that affect women’s reproductive organs. Regular screenings are essential for detecting cancer in its early stages when treatment is most effective. Here are the key aspects of cancer screening in gynecology and its importance for women

Cervical Cancer Screening (Pap Smear)

One of the most crucial screenings in gynecology is the Pap smear, which checks for abnormal cells on the cervix that could potentially develop into cervical cancer. During this test, cells from the cervix are collected and examined under a microscope. The Pap smear is recommended starting at age 21 and typically repeated every 3 years for women aged 21 to 29. For women aged 30 to 65, screening may be combined with testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) every 5 years.
